Maya Abdominal Therapy is based on the ancient Maya understanding of the importance of the correct positioning of the reproductive and digestive organs for pelvic and abdominal health.

Maya massage focuses on the abdomen, pelvis, and lower back to to enhance and restore digestive and reproductive health. When internal organs have shifted out of "proper" position the flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulses and "chi" is restricted, thus potentially creating dis-ease. This technique corrects the surrounding muscles and ligaments, improves organ function, normalizes hormones and flushes out toxins and helps you to feel wonderful ....

Would Maya Massage help with ... ?

Here is a thought about the benefits of Maya Abdominal Therapy: I don't do promises. I am not sure that it will help with any condition, I can't be, that's life - no certainty. So if someone emails me whether it would help with say, difficulty to conceive, I am very cagey, and write back something like: "Maya Abdominal Therapy may help …" But think about it, how could it not help: relaxes, it increases circulation, looses muscles, including the diaphragm, eases adhesions, and that's just the physical side.

I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. I see improvement in the symptoms as a bonus! It's a bit like trying to relax: the harder we try, the tenser we get.

"First, I will do no harm, offer no false hope and guard against arrogance.
I promise to be just as kind, loving and forgiving
to myself as I am to those who will seek my aid."

"I started going to Regina when I was 25 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I was suffering with hip pain which was similar to, but much worse than in my previous pregnancy. The massage lasted for an hour and covered my bump, shoulders and back, and hips and thighs.
Even though I didn't really go for anything other than my hips, I found the other areas really beneficial and left feeling relaxed and revitalized."

What happens during a session

Most people will benefit from Maya Abdominal Therapy, but as with all therapies, it needs to be tailored to you and your circumstances. I will email you quite an extensive consultation form prior to treatment. You only complete what you feel comfortable to share with me. At the beginning of the the first session we will talk about themes important to you. Usually the session includes massage concentrating on the belly, pelvis and back and the teaching of a lovely self care massage sequence - YAM (Your Abdominal Massage). In addition we may discuss how other modalities, such as castor oil packs, can support your healing journey. The first session lasts up to two hours, subsequent sessions up to to 90 minutes. In Covid times the first session is split into a virtual part and in person session, each lasting up to one hour. I am always surprised how quickly the times goes....

"Thank you very much for our wonderful sessions of Maya massage yesterday; we both loved it! I felt like I had a different body when I woke up this morning! Everything felt so much more in alignment and the strange feeling I have had in my pelvis has pretty much gone. I am sure with a few days of self massage it’ll be totally gone very soon.
We both felt very relaxed, both in your company and afterwards. Now we will just wait and see what happens …"
Hannah and her partner, Worcestershire

Raadhiyah came with a prolapsed uterus, felt fatigued with constant backache. After just one session she felt better for FOUR weeks.
"After a very warm welcome my Arvigo treatment begun. It was a very relaxed atmosphere so I was totally comfortable. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the result of my first massage. A few days later I was still totally relaxed and the feeling of fatigue which I had for months was quite reduced. I had enough strength to start my walks again which i used to miss a lot.
I have just had my second treatment and still need some more. But I do believe that whether my uterus manages to find home or not I will feel some sort of satisfaction with the treatment both physically and mentally."
Raadhiyah, Bradford

How many sessions do I need?

Most people will feel the benefits of Maya massage after just one session, and that is all they need. Some "issues" will take longer to improve and/or resolve.

For women the best time to come is after your period (that is if you have periods), but before ovulation. But any time is a good time, during your period we may have to leave out a couple of strokes.

Each woman and each pregnancy is different, so there is no standard number of sessions. You'll come as often as you need (and can afford).

Rosita recommends

  • a one hour session every four weeks for the first 20 weeks
  • week 20 - 37 fortnightly for a slightly longer session
  • from week 38 the "ready, set, go" session lasting 90 minutes as often as you need to (chances are, not too often).

Self care

Most people will feel the benefits of Maya massage after just one session, however, it is important that the techniques are used and practiced at home, for two reasons.

First, we all need to feel empowered to influence our own healing and health. It is frustrating and emotionally damaging when other people appear to control our well-being. By taking back responsibility for our health, through positive action, we benefit from both the physical improvements and the emotional tranquility that comes from being ‘in charge’.

Second, most medical conditions take a while to leave just as they took time to develop. While Maya Abdominal Therapy may jump start the healing process, a few minutes of self-massage a day is the key to restoring and supporting well-being and resolving long-term issues.

Third, (I obviously can't count), you are always available to yourself, your friendly Maya Therapist is not. You maximize the benefits from the treatment, and you can have far fewer treatments to get great results.

Rosita said in our certification training: "People who don't do the self care are only allowed to tell me about one symptom."

Last, not least

When I read the above I thought that the spirit of this therapy does not really come across. Okay, on a practical level, it is a wonderful treatment, but can be so much more - you may get in touch with your deepest emotions, feel cared and nurtured (and do this to yourself), connect to the sacred within - it is a belly massage with a heart. And I would be privileged to accompany you on your healing journey.

On the massage resources page I have put together useful and/or inspiring information. Please have a look.

You may want to know a couple of very practical details: The cost is £48 per hour, with £102 for the first session, which lasts up to two hours (at the moment split into a virtual and in-person part). Subsequent sessions are £74 (for up to 90 minutes). You may consider booking a longer in-person session, particularly if you don't live locally. I am based on Carlton Hill in Nottingham.

What next?

If you’re ready to go for it, or just want to have a chat about it you can phone me on 0115 648 9636 or 07942276538 or contact me via the contact form. Let me know a few options with regards to times you can do in the coming weeks. Once we figure out a time, I’ll email you a pre-treatment form for you to fill in.

For now, do your belly a favour and take three slow deep breaths all the way down into your belly. Feel everything relax and flow …

I look forward to hearing from you.

With warm regards,

Regina
