Scars & Adhesions

We all have scars and adhesions (tissue sticking together), but sometimes there is more going on than meets the eye, even with scars that are discrete and well healed.

You can reach Touching Well by mobile on 0794 227 6538, or via our landline 0115 648 9636, or the contact form.

Sessions are available Monday to Thursday daytime.

New treatment for scars is available now.

I hope to see you soon. With warm regards, Regina

Scarring is our body's way to heal from surgery, injury or infection. Underneath the surface of the skin our tissues can stick together, sometimes forming ridges, lumps, holes and gaps. This can have an effect on our movement, not only between muscles and bones, but also between organs, blood and lymph vessels and nerves, and can lead to pain.

Our bodies do their best to compensate for the scar. This happens slowly and subtly, we may not be aware of it. It is only when the restrictions are released that we realise how hard our bodies have been working.

Sharon Wheeler's ScarWork

It used to be thought that scars and adhesions needed to be broken down. This could be painful; sometimes it helped, at other times it didn't. Sharon Wheeler's ScarWork is a gentle approach that integrates scars into our fascial web, coaxing the fibrous and random tissue to blend in with the rest of our body.

ScarWork's aim is to soften the scar and sit ‘more at home’ in the surrounding tissue. The touch is light, responsive and non-intrusive, it is rarely painful. The tissue becomes more adaptable and resilient. It can help to even out the texture of the scar and remove tension, improving its look and feel. This not only assists any further healing but also enables your body to adapt in a more efficient way to the injury. Scars can be treated when they are fully closed, usually six weeks after surgery, but even decades old scars respond well to ScarWork.

I look forward to hearing from you.
